Today, June 10, the Swedish Dementia Center launches FINGER abc. It is a free online training course that provides concrete advice on how to improve brain health. The course is aimed at the general public and is based on the latest research on the impact of lifestyle changes on dementia.
FINGER abc has been developed by the Swedish Dementia Center in close collaboration with the FINGERS Brain Health Institute. The training is primarily intended for the general public, but people with memory problems can also benefit greatly from it. By making the lifestyle changes suggested by the training, the development of cognitive impairment can be slowed down.
The training lasts approximately 1.5 hours and includes animations, videos with experts and in-depth texts. It focuses on five lifestyle areas: healthy eating, physical activity, cognitive exercise, social activities and cardiovascular monitoring.
- These five lifestyle factors play a major role in the development of cognitive impairment, according to Miia Kivipelto, the founder of the FINGER method and professor of clinical geriatrics at Karolinska Institutet, and geriatrician and head of research at Karolinska University Hospital.
- The latest research shows that over 40% of dementia cases can be linked to lifestyle and environmental factors. And FINGER abc provides an introduction to how you can concretely improve your brain health with simple lifestyle changes," says Miia Kivipelto
FINGER abc is free of charge and has been developed with financial support from the Queen Silvia Foundation for Research and Education.
