Welcome to join our lunchtime webinar on October 30. This time on when the future of drug treatments will be explored further. We welcome our expert speaker, Professor Stina Syvänen who will share her extensive knowledge and research in molecular geriatrics at Uppsala University.
Alzheimer's disease is a growing problem worldwide, and the need for effective treatments is more urgent than ever. In this lecture, we will explore the challenges and opportunities waiting around the corner. Stina's research group is working on developing new drugs and diagnostics for Alzheimer's disease. A major focus is to develop new formats of antibody drugs. These new formats make their way into the brain to a greater extent than 'regular' antibodies. Clinical studies have shown that the dose of antibody that reaches the brain is partly responsible for the success of a treatment. Unfortunately, antibodies are very large substances and therefore only about 1 in 1000 antibodies administered to a patient ultimately reaches the brain. Through various modifications of the antibody structure, the body's own transport system can be used to increase the uptake of antibodies in the brain. The first studies of these specially designed antibodies are currently underway in Alzheimer's patients. Stina will talk about these.
Professor Syvänen is also a member of the Alzheimer's Foundation and has received several awards for his cutting-edge research in the field.
Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the latest advances in Alzheimer's disease drugs.
